Privacy policy

Specific to what this site actually does, rather than a template covering things we have never built. Last updated July 2026.

The short version. This site runs Google Analytics and nothing else. There are no user accounts, no newsletter, no advertising network, no behavioral ad pixels, and no data broker relationships. We do not sell or share personal information, and the only thing we ever ask you to type is a contact form we email to ourselves.

Sensor & Latch is operated by Type 5 Marketing LLC, United States. This policy covers sensorandlatch.com. It does not cover Amazon.com or any other site you reach by following a link from here — once you leave, you are under that site's policy, not ours.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. It runs on every page and sets cookies in your browser. What it collects, in practice:

  • Which pages you visited, in what order, and how long you stayed
  • How you arrived — a search engine, a direct visit, a link from another site
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address, at roughly city or region level. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store your full IP address.
  • Device type, browser, operating system and screen size
  • An event each time someone clicks an outbound buy link, recording which merchant and which page it was on

That last one is the only custom thing we track, and it is worth explaining. Every buy link on this site is routed through our own /go/ path, so a single listener can count those clicks. It tells us which pages and which recommendations readers actually find useful — a page nobody clicks through from is usually a page that failed to answer the question. The event records the merchant, the link and the page path. It does not record anything about you as a person.

Google acts as our analytics provider and processes this data under its own terms. If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on, and any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics cookies will also work. The site functions identically either way — nothing here is gated behind tracking.

Affiliate links and the Amazon cookie

When you click a buy link, you pass through our /go/ redirect and land on Amazon with our associate tag attached. The redirect itself stores nothing about you; it exists to keep the affiliate tag in one place and to let us count clicks in analytics. It is described in full in our affiliate disclosure.

Amazon then sets its own cookie so it can attribute a purchase back to us. That cookie is set by Amazon, on Amazon's domain, under Amazon's privacy notice. We cannot read it and we never see who you are or what you bought — the reporting we receive is aggregate. Following a link from this site does not tell Amazon anything about you that visiting Amazon directly would not.

The contact form

The contact form asks for a name, an email address and a message. When you submit it, that content is emailed to us at info@sensorandlatch.com. It is not written to a database, not added to a mailing list, and not passed to any third party. It lives in an email inbox, and it stays there until we delete it.

Two anti-spam measures run on submission and you should know about both. There is a hidden field a human never sees or fills — anything that fills it is treated as a bot and rejected. And the form records the moment the page loaded so it can compare that against the moment you pressed send; a submission that arrives in under a few seconds is treated as automated. We also limit how many submissions can come from one network address in an hour. That is the entire spam defense. There is deliberately no captcha, because a captcha means loading a third-party script that watches you across other sites, and we would rather absorb a little spam than do that to you.

Please do not send us sensitive personal information through the form. It is an email form on a hardware site, not a secure channel.

What we do not do

  • No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no password to create, so there is no account data to lose.
  • No newsletter. We do not run a mailing list and will not email you unless you email us first.
  • No advertising network. No display ads, no ad exchange, no retargeting pixels, no social tracking pixels. The site is funded by affiliate commissions instead.
  • No selling or sharing of personal information. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information for money or for anything else of value, and we never have.
  • No profiles. We do not build a profile about you, and nothing on this site is personalized based on your behavior. Every reader sees the same page.

Hosting and logs

The site is served by a commercial hosting provider, which keeps standard server logs for security and reliability — the same kind of request records that every web server keeps. We do not use those logs for analytics or marketing.

Children

This site is intended for adults buying home hardware. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation. Rather than restating the statutes, here is what they mean on a site like this one:

  • The right to know what we hold. Realistically: analytics data that is not tied to your name, and — if you have emailed us — your email and whatever you wrote. Ask and we will tell you.
  • The right to have it deleted. Email us and we will delete your correspondence from our inbox. Analytics data cannot be tied back to you by us; to remove yourself from it going forward, use the opt-out or block the cookies.
  • The right to correct it. If something you sent us is wrong, tell us and we will fix or delete it.
  • The right to opt out of sale or sharing. There is nothing to opt out of. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is no “do not sell” mechanism to operate.
  • The right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of this. The site works identically whether or not you block our analytics.
  • The right to object or complain. Write to us first. If you are in a jurisdiction with a data protection regulator, you may also complain to it.

To make any request, email info@sensorandlatch.com and tell us what you want. We will respond from the same address. We may need to ask a question to work out which messages are yours, and we will not ask for identity documents to answer a request about an email inbox.

Changes to this policy

If we add something that collects data — and we have no plans to — this page changes before the thing ships, with the date at the top updated. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date stamp is the notice.
