1. The content is informational
Everything here is general information about consumer home security hardware: compiled specifications, published standards, arithmetic about what a device costs to keep running, and our opinion about which product suits which situation. It is published for a general audience and it cannot account for your building, your door, your local codes, your insurance requirements, or your circumstances.
We do not test the hardware we write about. We do not own it, install it, or handle it, and we say so on every relevant page. Our methodology page sets out exactly what we do instead and where every figure comes from, so you can judge for yourself how much weight a given page deserves.
2. This is not professional security or life-safety advice
Nothing on this site is a substitute for advice from a qualified security professional, a licensed locksmith, an electrician, a fire safety professional, or your local building department. Where life safety is involved — fire, carbon monoxide, medical alerting, or anyone in your household who could not respond to an alert on their own — a professionally monitored system may be the right answer, and we will say so even though we earn nothing when you choose one.
Be clear-eyed about what this class of hardware does. A contact sensor reports that a door or window changed state. A camera records what happened in front of it. A smart lock is a deadbolt with an electronic way to operate it. None of these devices intervenes, none of them summons help on its own, and a self-monitored setup means the person responsible for noticing the alert is you. If that responsibility does not fit your situation, the product category on this site may not either.
Installation is your responsibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, respect any electrical or fire code that applies where you live, and get a professional in when a job is outside what you are comfortable doing. Modifying a door, a deadbolt, a smoke or CO device, or fixed wiring can affect your insurance, your tenancy agreement, and your safety.
3. Accuracy, and the limits of it
We take accuracy seriously — every product claim traces to a linked public document, and our correction policy is published in the editorial policy. But manufacturers revise spec sheets without notice, change what a firmware release does, alter what a subscription plan includes, and occasionally ship different internals under an unchanged model number. Content on this site is provided as-is and may become out of date between our scheduled re-checks.
Always confirm a critical specification against the manufacturer's current documentation before you buy, particularly anything that decides whether a product physically fits or works with your system: door thickness, backset, cross-bore, protocol and hub requirements, and whether a feature you are relying on needs a paid plan.
4. Prices and availability
Prices shown on this site are pulled live from Amazon's product API and stamped with the time they were checked. They are a snapshot, not an offer, and not a promise. Prices and availability change constantly, promotions expire, and a product can be delisted between our check and your click.
The price Amazon shows you at checkout is the price that governs.If our figure and Amazon's disagree, Amazon's is correct and ours is stale — and we would genuinely like to know, so that we can look at why. Where our data is more than 48 hours old we remove the number from the page rather than show it.
5. Affiliate relationships
We earn affiliate commissions on qualifying purchases made through links on this site, at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. This is disclosed in full, including how the links are built and what they do and do not influence, in our affiliate disclosure.
We are not the seller. We do not stock, ship, invoice, warranty, service or return anything. Your purchase contract is with the retailer, and any question about delivery, returns, refunds, warranty or defect goes to them or to the manufacturer.
6. Third-party links
This site links out constantly — to manufacturer manuals and spec sheets, to standards bodies, to vendor pricing pages, and to retailers. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content, their availability, their accuracy or their privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement of anything beyond the specific document we cited. Once you leave sensorandlatch.com you are governed by that site's terms and privacy policy, not ours.
7. No warranty
The site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the content is complete, current or free of error.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Type 5 Marketing LLC and anyone who writes for this site will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, property or goodwill, arising out of your use of — or inability to use — this site or anything you did or did not do in reliance on it. That includes decisions about which security hardware to buy, install or rely on.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply only to the extent the law allows, and nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Intellectual property and acceptable use
The writing, tables, arithmetic and page design on this site are ours. You are welcome to quote a reasonable extract with attribution and a link back. Wholesale copying, republication, or bulk scraping of the site for another commercial publication is not permitted. Product names, model numbers, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used here to identify hardware.
Do not use this site in a way that damages it or interferes with anyone else's use of it — automated request floods, attempts to break the contact form's spam controls, or attempts to abuse our outbound redirect to bounce traffic somewhere unrelated. The redirect is built to refuse that last one.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date at the top of it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will not be applied retroactively.
